It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Growing up in a small town near Buffalo, New York, my family could always find me by following the music.  The music on the radio or record player that is.  When I was about 14, I had finally saved enough money to buy a transistor radio that became my constant companion.  A few years later I convinced my parents to buy me a tape recorder...family holidays were never the same!

I went to college in Indiana without a good idea of what my major would be.  I finally settled on a BA in English becoming one of those famous English majors that Garrison Keillor talks about.  But it took me 3 years to get up the nerve to make the trek up to the college radio station.  Instantly I knew I’d found my niche!  Years later I moved across the country and worked in radio broadcasting.  (Remember “The Best from Broadway” on KHEP-FM in Phoenix AZ in the 70’s!?  That was me!)  Life happened...I got married, left Arizona and worked as an Administrate Assistant for various non-profits.  But something was missing.

In 2001, I discovered the Association of Personal Historians. The article said, “she takes her tape recorder and records the stories of your life.”   At last I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up...a Personal Historian!

I started my business, Real to Reel, recording personal stories, in September of that year.  I believe that the work I do, helping you to record your stories for your children, grandchildren and future generations is the most important work there is.

To quote Sue Monk Kidd in The Secret Life of Bees:   "Stories have to be told or they die, and when they die, we can't remember who we are or why we're here."

You deserve to tell your stories and your family deserves to hear them.  I’m here to help.
